Things are heating up: Waverley Council’s spring school holiday program kicks off next week
22 September 2023 | Council News
22 September 2023
Waverley Council’s spring school holiday program is jam packed with activities that will keep kids of all ages busy. With holidays starting next week, there are limited places available in these activities, and booking soon is recommended.
Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos says “for kids with an artistic streak – or those that just want to get their creative juices flowing – the Waverley Woollahra Art School has sessions suitable for all ages. Teens can try their hand at drawing or painting portraits, Egyptian hieroglyphic painting, or claymaking. Younger kids can learn the basics of watercolour painting, mixed media art, or have a great time creating clay monsters and unicorns.”
For information on dates, timings, and prices, visit the Waverley Woollahra Art School website and browse the school holiday program tabs.
“The Margaret Whitlam Recreation Centre has plenty of options to keep the kids moving (and tire them out!). From soccer and archery to dance, tennis, and basketball, there’s something for every active young person. If your kid can’t decide, why not send them to a Four Sports Day, where they can have a go at a handful of different sports?” says Mayor Masselos.
The Centre’s sports program is split by age groups: 6-8 year olds and 9-12 year olds. Check out the details on Eventbrite.
Mayor Masselos continued “young minds need constant stimulation, and what better entertainment than the hilarious and engaging children’s shows that are part of the revamped Bondi Pavilion’s Spring Series?”
Children Are Stinky (23 September): Fresh from a sell-out, award-winning season at the Edinburgh Fringe, Circus Trick Tease bring their all-ages show that’s chock full of ridiculously fun acrobatics, clever choreography, and mischievous banter.
Junkyard Beats (5-6 October): The Box Show for ages 5 and up, is a feat of innovative and interactive drumming melded with physical comedy that will fill the Pavilion Theatre and Courtyards. Household items are magically transformed into extraordinary musical instruments - you’ll never look at a cardboard box in the same way again.
The Pavilion has plenty of shows for parents as well. See what’s on at the Pav.
“Waverley Library’s free activities range are nothing short of magic, with something for everyone. Your crafty kids will love the miniature bird house making or squishy soap making classes. The Harry Potter-obsessed can dip their wands into a magical world of Potion Making, Hogwarts Herbology, or attend the Yule Ball Dance Party,” says Mayor Masselos. Book in here.
Mayor Masselos was pleased that Waverley is again able to offer an inclusive program of events that have been designed to be engaging, interesting, and memorable. “We have a diverse offering of artistic, entertaining, and sporting activities that means that something will appeal to everyone.”
