- A message from the Mayor about the latest stay-at-home orders
A message from the Mayor about the latest stay-at-home orders
25 June 2021
3.35pm Friday 25 June 2021
In response to stay-at-home orders announced by the Premier this morning for the Waverley, Woollahra, Randwick and City of Sydney LGAs, effective from 11.59pm tonight until 11.59pm, Friday 2 July, Waverley Council has taken the following additional steps to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and help keep the community safe:
- Waverley Library will close at 5pm today for the next seven days
- The Waverley Council Customer Service Centre in Spring Street, Bondi Junction, will close at 5pm today for the next seven days
- Waverley Council Chambers is now closed
- Council’s School Holidays Programs are cancelled for the next seven days with an assessment of the situation next week to determine the rest of the holidays
- Seniors events and programs including at the Margaret Whitlam Recreation Centre are cancelled until further notice.
- Bondi Festival stakeholders are being contacted about the event and an update will be issued shortly.
Our lifeguard patrols will continue as normal and playgrounds and outdoor fitness gyms remain open as leaving your home for exercise is still permitted. Childcare also remains open.
Council will continue to monitor the evolving situation closely and the relevant public health orders, and may announce further changes in the coming days.
People should be aware of and adhere to the temporary restrictions in place including those for people who live and work in Waverley, Woollahra, Randwick and City of Sydney. The reasons you can leave your home are:
- Shopping for food or other essential goods and services;
- Medical care or compassionate needs;
- Exercise outdoors in groups of 10 or fewer;
- Essential work, or education, where you cannot work or study from home.
Waverley Council has a proud history of supporting local businesses in the LGA and we will be revisiting our business support package to see what actions may need to be taken in light of this new outbreak.
I would again like to thank the thousands of people who have been tested in the past 24 hours and would like to see these high rates of testing continue in Waverley. The testing clinics at Hollywood Avenue Bondi Junction (open 8am-10pm daily) and at Bondi Beach (open 7.30am to 10pm daily) continue to operate extended hours and we urge people to take NSW Health advice and get tested.
Please, if you have even the mildest of cold symptoms, or have been to any of concern, please, go get tested, and remain in isolation until you receive a negative result.
If you are in Greater Sydney, or you have been in Greater Sydney in the last 14 days, you must wear a face mask
- over your nose and mouth
- when you are indoors at non-residential premises, including workplaces.
Please, continue to social distance, maintain good hand hygiene, and help our local businesses and contact tracers by always checking into venues. And please, get vaccinated as soon as you are able.
Council will continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as soon as possible. Please keep an eye on the Waverley Council Facebook and Instagram pages as well as our website.
Paula Masselos, Mayor of Waverley
