UPDATE 2.48pm, 14 May 2020

Following our understanding of the state government’s easing of some restrictions COVID-19 restrictions in NSW, Waverley’s ocean pools, playgrounds, outdoor gyms and sporting courts will be open from tomorrow, Friday 15 May.

Waverley’s beaches will remain closed as per the Public Health Orders current on Thursday 14 May and access to the water at our beaches for swimming and surfing will be via our existing ‘Swim & Go’ and ‘Surf & Go’ corridors. This position will be reevaluated when the new Public Health Orders become available.

An anticipated 10-person limit applies to all ocean pools, playgrounds, outdoor gyms and sporting courts. Council staff will be monitoring visitor numbers at Bronte and North Bondi pools to ensure the restrictions are followed.

Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos, welcomed the easing of some restrictions but reminded the community to remain vigilant at all times.

“Please remember to observe all current restrictions and follow instructions from lifeguards, Council Ambassadors [staff] and the Police at all times,” Mayor Masselos said.

“Our plans for our public spaces are contingent on the detail of the next round of Public Health Orders which are due to be released soon.

“If you intend on using our ocean pools, playgrounds, outdoor gyms and outdoor sporting courts and they look busy, please come back another time.

“We are delighted to be able to reopen some of our beautiful public spaces and urge the community to continue to do the right thing.”
