Waverley Council's actions in response to COVID-19

We continue to deliver most services. Garbage collection, and our services such as public place cleansing, are continuing to operate as usual.
Early Childhood Education Centres and our Family Day Care services remain open at the current time and are closely following health advice.
Council will continue to reach out to vulnerable people in our community to make sure they remain supported, connected and informed during the evolving coronavirus situation. Information on how we are supporting the community is available here.
Council is working to ensure the local business community is supported, well informed and knows where to access advice and financial support. Further information is available here.
Bondi beach promenade and park remains open, but please maintain social distancing.
Our Rangers and NSW Police continue to monitor social distancing in our public places. Please also observe our alcohol-free and alcohol prohibited areas. Failure to comply with Australian Government restrictions to stop the spread of Covid - 19 is a fineable offence under the Local Government Act.
The following services and venues have been affected until further notice:
- Customer Service Centre is closed
- Margaret Whitlam Recreation Centre is closed
- Mill Hill Community Centre is closed
- Bondi Pavilion is closed (including the amenities)
- Waverley Library is closed, and our Home Library Service is suspended, but we are still able to offer our online resources to members
- Waverley Toy Library is closed
- All beaches – Bondi, Tamarama, Mackenzies Bay, Bronte, including Bronte Pool– are closed.
- The Bondi to Bronte coastal walk is being managed to reduce public health risks. At times it will be closed. Council will continue to monitor numbers on the walk to ensure social distancing can be maintained.
- Council’s BBQs in public places are not available for use
- Council's outdoor fitness stations are closed
- Council's playgrounds are closed
- Council's multi-purpose, netball and basketball courts are closed
- Council's skatepark is closed
- Waverley-Woollahra School of Arts is closed
- All community halls are closed
- Council’s free JP Service has been suspended
- All events in Council facilities are cancelled until early May at this stage. This includes:
- Ocean Lovers Festival
- Charing Cross Festival
- Jazz @ the Pav
- Bondi Blitz
- Mermaid Festival
- Summer Daze (5 April, 2 May)
- Business Forum
- ANZAC Sunday on 19 April
- Global Table
- Non-essential Council-run events and programs will be cancelled or postponed until further notice, including:
- Autumn School Holiday program
- All Library events and programs
- Seniors Centre programs and events
- Smaller-scale community events
The situation is evolving continuously and additional service changes may be made as further health advice comes to hand.
