Have Your Say about the future of Waverley Park
01 November 2021 | Media Release
1 November 2021
Waverley Council is inviting the community to provide feedback about its draft Plan of Management (PoM) for Waverley Park.
Waverley Park is one of our most popular open spaces for sport and recreation and the PoM will provide a management framework, Masterplan and action plan to guide for the management, ongoing maintenance and park upgrades for the next 10 years.
Stage 1 of our consultation is open at Have Your Say until 22 November. The community will be able to provide feedback on a new play space, fitness station upgrade and an indoor cricket net training facility.
The feedback received will help the Council better understand what the community enjoys about the park, how the space is used, who is using it, how people get there, and where it could be improved.
A spokesperson for the Council said "We are very fortunate in our densely populated local government area to have access to an open space as large as Waverley Park which is used by people for a variety of reasons including exercise, competitive sport, dog walking and relaxation”.
“Over the last 10 years, we have undertaken several significant capital works projects in the park and with more upgrades planned over the next few years, it’s time to review our PoM so that it reflects current and future needs,” the spokesperson said.
Subject to consultation outcomes, the Council will prepare a concept design for the play space and fitness station, with a report to Council in February 2022. The expected timing for commencing construction of the indoor cricket nets is 2023 at the earliest.
$1.7 million for the play space and fitness station upgrade is being funded by the NSW Government through the Public Spaces Legacy Program.
