Local artist Sue Field’s most recent exhibition An Absent Presence was informed by a recent residency in France and her established writing and drawing practice. cross Field’s work, the viewer is left with the ambivalent sense that someone has just left the room, exited the stage or even fled. Field’s dramatic scenes are presented as theatres without actors; they are densely detailed drawings with compelling layers of symbolism and meaning to be explored. In this exhibition, the audience, have arrived on the scene too late to do anything. Instead, we become witnesses or even forensic investigators interrogating what has occurred.
