Nature Positive

Waverley has committed to becoming Nature Positive, which means reversing the loss of natural systems so that species and ecosystems can be restored and recover. We will continue to engage with the community to enhance Waverley’s urban ecosystems by providing opportunities to participate in restoration and delivering guidance and support for improving habitats on private land.

Council manages approximately six hectares of remnant native vegetation across 12 main sites. We are successfully supporting critically endangered Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub and other threatened species across these sites. Through active management of remnant vegetation, extensive ecological restoration and education programs, valuable habitat is being restored for local animals, limited greenspace is being enhanced and coastal and marine ecosystems are being supported.

Council’s Nature Positive goals outlined in the Environmental Action Plan are as follows:
  1. Protect and increase our biodiversity, parks, urban canopy cover and habitat areas
  2. Ensure no loss of remnant native vegetation
  3. Improve marine biodiversity
  4. Protect and secure water supplies
