Zines are making a big comeback and we love to see it! More and more people are turning to this accessible way of expressing themselves. Learn all about the principles of zine making and how to tell your story in short form.
Zines, short for magazine or fanzine, are small DIY works of original or appropriated texts and images, usually reproduced via a copy machine. Historically created by counter cultures or marginalised groups, this format is a powerful way to share information and experiences directly with others.
About your teacher Rowan:
Rowan Grover is a queer cartoonist working on Gadigal land. They have tabled at comic and zine fairs such as Other Worlds, Comic Con-versation, and SCAMP. Their latest work is the dark fantasy romp ALL THE DEVILS ARE HERE. Rowan have contributed to anthologies such as Sticky Beak and Monster Mashup Comic Anthology. They work primarily in genre fiction, creating character-focused stories and filling out the world around them as they go. They love to exaggerate the real in their work, as they feel it helps accentuate the emotions they want to convey.
All materials will be provided, although attendees are encouraged to bring along their own materials if they wish.
