Waverley Library has a large general reference collection for use in the library. As well as encyclopaedias, there is a multitude of subject areas covered including Art, Travel, Health, Law and History. Our many resources will help with your questions, research and study.
Drug Info
Drug Info is a partnership between the NSW Ministry of Health and the State Library of NSW. It offers a collection of plain language books and fact sheets on a number of drugs and alcohol, information for students undertaking PDHPE and a guide for parents on how to discuss drugs and alcohol with your children. In depth information is also provided via the Drug Info website.
Family History
There are many books and online resources available to assist you with researching your family history. Read our research guide, or talk to our Library staff who can give you guidance on the best internet links available, including Ancestry.com. This external link will open in a new window
HSC
The Library holds a special HSC Collection including study guides, criticisms, and prescribed texts to support your road to the HSC. Each year we hold a lecture series and late night study sessions and provide a quiet place to study in the lead up to your exams.
The State Library of NSW has start out and in-depth resources for your HSC year.
You'll find information and featured content for each of your subjects; help online and onsite; resources you can use at home, and research guides that bring together resources relevant to particular subjects.
For teachers, there are learning activities, resources and workshops for your HSC program.
Law Resources
The Library provides access to answers on a diverse variety of subjects including family law, neighbourhood disputes, crime, health and ageing, the courts, housing and environment.
Information is provided through ‘Hot Topics’, a plain language series about recent changes and current debates in the law. There is also access to law databases such as AustLII, ComLaw and guidance to accessing free legal advice.
The Legal Information Access Centre (LIAC) is a specialist information service of the State Library of NSW. It provides access to high quality information about the law for all members of the community in NSW via the Find Legal Answers website, public libraries and by working in partnership with key legal sector agencies.
Also available is a comprehensive and up-to-date collection of law books on Federal, State and Local Government law including property, tax, equity, contract, criminal and business law.
Rare books
The Library’s rare book collection contains many items from the late 1800s and early 1900s. They include English law, Australian history, military, medicine, literature and general knowledge.
Online Databases
Access a world of information and recreation through our online databases available free of charge to Library members. There is a database to suit all your needs and available for use in the library and most from home. Some topics covered are health, literature, law, science and general.
