9 Oct 2019: Bondi Junction Cycleway and Streetscape Project

Bondi Junction Cycleway and Streetscape Project

Stage 2 construction of the Bondi Junction Cycleway and Streetscape Project is now underway along Spring Street between Newland and Denison streets, and Denison Street between Spring and Oxford streets.

This vital transport and streetscape improvement project will see all pathways and streets along the cycleway route upgraded with new trees, streets furniture and garden beds in line with the Council’s Complete Streets program. These improvements will make Bondi Junction a more attractive and livable place for residents and local businesses.

Council acknowledges that there will be inconvenience during construction of the cycleway, which is primarily funded by the State Government. We are working with local business and residents to help mitigate some of the effects as we deliver these vital improvements to enhance our public, residential and business amenity.

The route through Spring Street, Oxford Street, Denison Street and Bronte Road was identified from seven different routes as the safest option for a two-way separated cycleway. It will promote an increase in foot traffic and social interactions, making the eastern section of Spring Street in particular a ‘place’ rather than just a ‘thoroughfare’. Pedestrian traffic in Oxford Street Mall is too high during business hours for a safe cycleway

Stage 2 construction is due for completion in January, with stage 3 due to commence immediately after along Spring Street between Newland Street and Bronte Road.
