23 Jan: Celebrating 160 years of Waverley

In 2019, Waverley Council proudly celebrates the 160th anniversary of Waverley.

The proclamation of the Municipality of Waverley was gazetted on June 16, 1859- the same year that Queensland separated from NSW.

But our history begins with the Bidjigal and Gadigal people who traditionally occupied the Sydney Coast and we acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders both past and present.

As I reflect on the accomplishments of my years as a Councillor and Mayor, I am excited about the future we are helping create for generations to come.

Council is investing record amounts on infrastructure and we are making sustainability second nature.

To help celebrate our 160th anniversary, Council’s Communications and Engagement team invites you to share your story about your connection to Waverley for an exciting social media project: Waverley 160.

To be one of the 160 participants, or to find out more, please email waverley160@waverley.nsw.gov.au or follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
