18 Dec 2019: End of Year Message

It has been great to see so many projects progress this year at Council as we work towards a better Waverley.

We will continue to maintain and upgrade our residential infrastructure at significantly high rates whilst remaining fiscally responsible.

I am very excited about our restoration of iconic Bondi Pavilion and the heritage Boot Factory building at Mill Hill, Bondi Junction. Our vision for the Boot Factory is to transform the building into an innovative and learning hub for the community.

Through our safety and streetscape upgrades, we are making our villages and the Bondi Junction CBD more liveable, sustainable and equitable. That means more trees, better footpaths and better access for residents and small business. We’re also building new amenities at South Bondi.

I’m proud of our new Reconciliation Action Plan 2019-2021 builds on Council’s existing efforts towards reconciliation as an organisation and with the community.

Above all else, our declaration last week of a State of Climate and Biodiversity Emergency requests all levels of government act now to protect our environment and community for future generations. To that end, our thoughts are with all who are caught up in the bushfires and hope they remain safe as they battle to keep the flames at bay.

On behalf of everyone at Waverley Council, I wish you and your family a safe and happy festive season and a wonderful year ahead.
