- Stay safe in Waverley this weekend
Stay safe in Waverley this weekend
28 August 2020
Waverley Council is encouraging anyone considering visiting our public places this weekend to observe the current Public Health Orders in place which limit outdoor gatherings to 20 people.
Matt du Plessis, Manager, Lifeguard Services and Beach Safety, said the Council will be managing numbers at beaches and the four square metre rule in line with the current Public Health Order.
“We also remind visitors to Waverley to continue to social distance. For instance, remember to keep one towel-length apart (1.5 metres) between yourself and others,” Mr du Plessis said.
“If the beaches or the coastal walk look busy this weekend, please consider visiting another time or use your time to visit our wonderful local businesses.”

Council’s compliance staff and beach ambassadors will be closely monitoring visitor numbers over the weekend and reminding people of the need to be social distance.
“Our lifeguards are on patrol from 7am to 5pm at all three of Council’s beaches and we ask that people swim between the flags and be conscious of their ability in the water,” Mr du Plessis said.
Extra Rangers will be patrolling our beach areas and the Bondi to Bronte coastal walk. We ask visitors to follow the instructions of staff at all times and be respectful. They are there to help keep you safe.
Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos, said in these challenging and unprecedented times, the Council is working very hard to ensure that the community remains safe.
“Waverley Council is currently operating under the relevant Public Health Orders and our existing Beach Management Plan is under constant review,” Mayor Masselos said.
“We are also continuing to work very closely with NSW Health and the Police, other agencies, as well as neighbouring councils on our beach management measures.
“Any measures we implement to help manage our beaches and open spaces as we head into summer will be in line with the relevant Public Health Orders and will need to adapt and change along with any changes to restrictions implemented by the NSW Government.
“As we move into the warmer months, it’s imperative for the public to do the right thing by observing Public Health Orders which are there to keep us safe.”
