- Have Your Say about our Curlewis Street Streetscape Upgrade updated concept design
Have Your Say about our Curlewis Street Streetscape Upgrade updated concept design
23 November 2022
Waverley Council is inviting the community to provide feedback on an updated concept design for part of our streetscape upgrade of Curlewis Street, Bondi Beach.
Council is proposing to upgrade 850 metres of roadway along Curlewis St from Campbell Parade to Old South Head Road, including the installation of 700 metres of separated two-way bike path, to improve traffic flow and the safety of pedestrians and road users.
Earlier this year, Council invited feedback on a draft concept design for this upgrade. The design at the western end of Curlewis Street has now been updated to address feedback received during the initial consultation with regards to connectivity of the bike path and traffic flow. All other aspects of the proposed upgrade were consulted on earlier this year.
Key features of the updated design include:
- removing the left hand turn into Simpson Street (vehicles will still be able to turn left out of Simpson Street)
- improving connectivity of the shared path as bikes and pedestrians will have a more direct route along Curlewis Street
- allowing room for two lanes of traffic travelling from Old South Head Road, one continuing onto Blair Street and the other continuing onto Curlewis Street
There will be no net loss of parking on Simpson Street.
Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos, said community feedback will be used to inform the direction of the project which aims to beautify and increase safety along a key traffic corridor between Bondi Beach and Rose Bay.
“Curlewis Street is an important community hub which marks the entrance to Bondi Beach and the Waverley area,” Mayor Masselos said.
“This project aims to make the area safer for pedestrians and bike riders and create a more inviting and vibrant space for the community to enjoy.”
This project is part funded by Transport for NSW.
Consultation on the updated concept design closes Friday 16 December at https://haveyoursay.waverley.nsw.gov.au/curlewisstreetscape.
