- Bronte Pool emergency pool pump works
Bronte Pool emergency pool pump works
2 September 2022
Waverley Council wishes to advise that Bronte Pool will closed for around three weeks from Monday 5 September so that contractors can carry out emergency pool pump works.
The works will be completed in time for the second week of the spring school holidays, weather permitting, and we can’t wait to welcome back visitors to our much-loved ocean pool.
Works to repair damage to the pump from erosion and debris were carried out in April and each component of the pump was individually inspected in early August. Technicians later found that the output of the pump was more than the recommended efficient running speed. Based on these latest findings and recent repair works, Council decided it was necessary to carry out these unscheduled emergency works now to ensure the pump operates at full capacity over the busy summer months.
Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos, thanked the community for its patience as these essential works are carried out.
“Bronte Pool is one of our most treasured and loved destinations in Waverley and is a key location on the Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk which is visited by millions of people each year,” Mayor Masselos said.
“It’s vital that these emergency works are carried out now so that people can get back into the pool during the school holidays and it enjoy it all summer long, and beyond.”
While the pool is closed, Council will remove debris and other damage from the pool surface as part of wider pool surface investigations works which were announced in July and will take around 12 months to finalise.
The pool was last resurfaced in 2016 and large pieces of the pool surface have since lifted as a result of the constant movement of the pool, and this needs to be remedied.
The nearest ocean pools to Bronte Pool are Clovelly and Bondi Icebergs.
