- Bondi Junction Cycleway and Streetscape Upgrade
Bondi Junction Cycleway and Streetscape Upgrade
2 June 2021
The Bondi Junction Cycleway and Streetscape Upgrade has entered its next phase with works commencing along the western side of Bronte Road between Ebley and Spring streets.
These works will continue for around eight weeks with the overall Bronte Road stage of the project expected to be finished in November 2021.
Access to all Bronte Road storefronts will be maintained throughout the course of these works and the road will remain open to traffic.
The Bondi Junction Cycleway and Streetscape Upgrade is Waverley’s component in the NSW Government’s Eastern Suburbs Cycleway. The project is being delivered as part of a $240 million investment by the Australian and NSW Governments to stimulate the economy as it recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Waverley Council and Transport for NSW are using this funding to install new walking and cycling paths and green footpaths and community spaces to enhance the vibrancy of Bondi Junction. The cycling paths will eventually link Oxford St, Syd Einfeld Drive and the Bondi Road intersection to an existing cycleway at the north eastern corner of Centennial Park.
The cycling path along Oxford Street between Denison Street and St James Road was completed on 31 May and Council reminds cyclists that pedestrians have right of way. Pedestrians and vehicles should also keep an eye out for bike riders.
Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos, said Council is continuing to work with residents, businesses, tenants and landlords during the project to minimise any impacts.
“The Bondi Junction CBD is looking greener and more inviting because of this upgrade project which is also part of Waverley Council’s Complete Streets plan to enhance the vibrancy of our CBD, making it a more beautiful place to live, visit and do business,” Mayor Masselos said.
