A message from the Mayor about COVID

21 June 2021

I am urging the Waverley community to continue to come forward for testing to help prevent the further transmission of COVID-19 in Sydney and beyond.

There are now 11 cases connected to the eastern suburbs cluster and NSW recorded two locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.

NSW Health since has been notified of a further two new locally acquired cases overnight which will be included in tomorrow’s figures. These new cases are:

  • A man in his 30s from the eastern suburbs. He is a close contact of a previously reported case and has been in isolation
  • A woman in her 50s from Sydney’s northern suburbs. She is also a close contact of a previously reported case and has been in isolation.

Please, if you have even the mildest of cold symptoms, or have been to any venues of concern, please, go get tested, and remain in isolation until you receive a negative result. This includes people who visited Westfield Bondi Junction anytime on June 12 and 13, including the car park.

Remember, masks are mandatory on public transport in Sydney and now Shellharbour and Wollongong until midnight Wednesday.

Masks are also mandatory indoors in Waverley and seven other local government areas except when you are eating or drinking.

Please, continue to social distance, maintain good hand hygiene, and help our local businesses and contact tracers by always checking into venues. And please, get vaccinated as soon as you are able.

I am pleased to the report that the Bondi Beach drive-through testing clinic has been busy today but the wonderful nurses at St Vincent’s Hospital are managing to test people fairly quickly. The clinic is open from 7.30am to 10pm each day until further notice, so please, get tested, bearing in mind that school holidays begin on Friday.

NSW recorded 25,252 tests in the past 24 hours compared with 24,468 for the previous period and we need testing numbers to be at their highest.

Again, I would like to thank the Waverley community for their resilience during this ongoing pandemic. We cannot be complacent and must comply with all relevant public health orders and health advice.
