Make recycling easier in your apartment with on-demand pickups

Recycling in apartments isn’t always straightforward. Limited bin space, tricky waste streams, and uncertainty about what goes where can make it harder to do the right thing. That’s where Waverley Council’s on-demand home recycling service comes in.
In partnership with ReSmart, this service makes it simple for apartment residents to recycle items that don’t belong in kerbside bins, such as e-waste, soft plastics, textiles and household problem waste, all from the convenience of your home.
Since launching, the program has already made a strong impact across the community. Residents have recycled over 3,334kg of material through 1,640 pickups, averaging around 2kg per collection. This shows just how easy it is to make a difference with small, consistent actions.
E-waste has been the most collected item, with more than 1,021kg diverted from landfill. This incredible result is a strong reminder that many everyday items can and should be recycled, rather than thrown away.
The service is already gaining traction in apartment buildings, with several buildings fully onboarded and more in the pipeline. In addition, 376 residents are actively using the Council-subsidised pickup service, showing growing demand for more convenient recycling options.
Why this matters for apartments
Apartment living comes with unique challenges when it comes to waste, but also a big opportunity to create a collective impact. By signing your building up to the program, residents can:
- Access a simple, bookable recycling service from home
- Reduce contamination in shared bins
- Divert more waste from landfill
- Make sustainable living easier for everyone in the building
