October is Mental Health Month, and we’ve lined up some mindful activities to get that dopamine flowing. From getting outside at garden days to making new friends at clothes swaps and choirs, there are plenty of ways to lift your spirits alongside your neighbours this month.
Good Vibes Community Choir

Every Thursday from 16 October / The Mill Hill Community Centre/ 2 – 3 pm
Sing, connect and feel good at our brand-new Good Vibes Community Choir, led by choir maestro, Robert Teicher, and in partnership with St Luke's Care. Open to all ages and abilities, this is the perfect chance to lift your voice and mood while creating new connections.
Garden open days - National Gardening Week

Celebrate the mindfulness of gardening at two special open days:
- 18 October – Waverley Community Garden – 11 am - 3 pm: Learn about native bees as we split a beehive
- 19 October – Waverley Cemetery – 10 am - 12 pm: Roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty by helping to plant new natives at the Waverley Cemetery open day
Hands-on workshops

11 October / The Mill Hill Community Centre / Various times
Keep your hands busy and your mind active at our two creative workshops:
- Reconnect with nature at our Nature Weaving workshop, where you will create a beautiful handwoven piece using natural materials.
- Get a crash course in clothing repair at our Learn to Repair workshop, and breathe new life into your clothes.
Clothes Swap Party

25 October / The Boot Factory, 27-33 Spring Street, Bondi Junction / 10 am – 12 pm
You're invited to the Boot Factory for a clothes-swapping party like no other. Bring along your good-quality clothing and exchange it with other community members for a whole new look. It’s fashion with a fun, community twist.
Storytime at Playgroup – Beach safety special

22 October / Wairoa Community Centre Hall / 9.30 – 11.30 am
Our regular playgroups provide families with young children a place to connect, play, learn, make friends and build social networks. Join us for a special beach-themed Storytime with Waverley Library and Bondi Beach Playgroups. Little ones can enjoy stories and play while caregivers receive important water safety tips just in time for summer.
Sports Active Inclusion Workshop

29 October / The Boot Factory, 27-33 Spring Street / 6 - 7.30 pm
Through this Sports Active Inclusion Workshop, participants will learn practical steps to make their club, school, or sporting community more inclusive for participants of all backgrounds, cultures, and abilities. This workshop is suitable for teachers, club administrators, managers, coaches, or volunteers passionate about supporting kids through sport.
Upstander Anti-Racism Workshop

30 October / The Boot Factory, 27-33 Spring Street / 6.30 - 7 pm
Through this interactive, scenario-based workshop, participants will learn about the four upstander actions they can take to promote safety and how to respond to examples of discrimination. This workshop is suitable for teachers, club administrators, coaches, managers, or volunteers passionate about supporting people in the community.
