“Being on local council has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It has very much provided me with a solid foundation for the next stage of my political life.”
Councillor Marjorie O’Neill is a fifth generation Bronte resident who fondly remembers her grandparents running the newsagency in Charing Cross. She attended St Charles Primary in Waverley and St Vincents College Potts Point.
Marjorie is a keen sports women including representing the University of Sydney in rugby and as a volunteer women’s sport coach at University of New South Wales. Marjorie has a PhD in Management and Economics and is a business school academic and lecturer. She is also the Chair of the Community Safety Advisory Committee and the Waverley Surf Life Saving Club Committee. She is an alternative Chair to Southern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils and the Southern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils – Sustainability Program Committee.
Marjorie is also the State Member for Coogee where she used her inaugural speech to discuss her heritage, her family, the history of the electorate of Coogee.
Cr O’Neill’s policy interests include effectively addressing Waverley transportation issues, stopping unsustainable overdevelopment, developing a sustainable local government workforce and ensuring transparent and accountable council governance. She describes her proudest achivements in local government as helping local businesses throughout
