Joining and Borrowing

How to join
Joining Waverley Library is simple and free for all Sydney residents. Simply bring along official identification that shows both your name and current address (e.g. driver's license, rates notice, utility account) and complete a membership form. If you are under 16, a parent or guardian must sign your form. Membership is renewable every three years.

Joining online
If you would like a temporary membership you can join online. A temporary membership number and password will be displayed. You are then able to immediately reserve items in the library catalogue and get access to our online resources including databases, ebooks and magazines.

If you are unable to visit the library in person our Home Library Service offers free delivery of personally selected items fortnightly or monthly to housebound residents in the Waverley area. The Service is also available for those residents who unable to carry their loans home from the library.

What you can borrow
We know that people love our collection, so we’re generous with our loans.  Members can borrow up to 30 items including books, DVDs, CDs, and magazines.
Up to 5 audio or e-books can be downloaded as well as unlimited e-magazines.  There are also popular Quick Picks available on 7 day loan (max. 3).
Borrow your own items through our self-loan kiosks.  Our staff members are happy to show you how.
Items can be borrowed for three weeks and renewed up to three times provided they have not been reserved by another member.
This can be done through our Member Services. Please have your card number handy. To renew items in person please call 9083 8733.
Please notify staff of any damage found and any change to your address or contact details.

Returning your items
Charges apply when overdue notices are sent to you, but with our generous renewal options, most people find it easy to return items on time.
Please remember that to be fair to all of our members, keeping items overdue may prevent further borrowing.
During opening hours items should be returned via the Returns chute inside the library.   There is also an after-hours chute available next to the library entrance if you wish to return items when the library is closed.

If you’ve searched the library’s catalogue and tracked down that item you’ve been looking for, its best to make sure it is available for you by calling the Library on 9083 8711.  We’ll grab it off the shelf and hold it for you for up to two days.
If the item you want is already on loan, you can reserve it online or call the library on 9083 8711.  A $1 reservation fee will apply and you will be notified by SMS, email or letter when the item is available for pick-up.
If you are looking for an item that is not in our collection, we will endeavour to get it from another library for you on inter-library loan.
