Rebates for reusable alternatives
The rebates for cloth nappy and reusable sanitary products has now ended for the 2022/ 20223 Financial Year. Council has provided 92 rebates to residents during the trial. We are in the process of evaluating the opportunities for reusable rebates for 2023 / 2024 Financial Year. |
Reduce your waste, help the environment and save money!
Waverley Council is running a trial program for one year, offering residents a rebate for the purchase of cloth nappies and reusable sanitary products making it more affordable than ever for you to try these eco-friendly options and move away from single use products.
Each household in the Waverley council area is eligible for one rebate per category. Separate applications are required for each category. Apply for your rebate today, before funds run out or the rebate closes on the 1st June 2023.
This project is a NSW Environment Protection Authority Waste Less, Recycle More initiative, funded from the waste levy.
![]() | Cloth Nappies50% of the purchase price up to $100 (i.e. spend $200 to receive $100 back!) Includes cloth and swim nappies, reusable inner liner for nappies, reusable nappy hire costs, reusable wipes and wet bags. |
![]() | Reusable Sanitary Products50% of the purchase price up to $50 (i.e. spend $100 to receive $50 back!). Includes reusable pads, period cups, period underwear, incontinence underwear and wet bags. |
Waverley Council is committed to becoming a zero-waste community and transitioning towards a circular economy. Surprisingly, nappies and sanitary products make up around 6% of waste generated in Waverley. On average, women and people who menstruate use approximately 11,000 disposable menstrual products in their lifetime which equates to around 200kgs of single-use waste. Single-use nappies have a similarly detrimental impact on the environment with one child using approximately 4,000 – 6,000 disposable nappies, all of which end up in landfill and take 150+ years to break down. While making the switch can cost a little more upfront, in the long run these products can save you $1,000s!
