Festival of the Winds

Like our Festival of the Winds Facebook event to stay updated!

Waverley Council’s Festival of the Winds is one of Sydney’s premier festivals attracting up to 70,000+ visitors to the free fun filled day on iconic Bondi Beach and is one of the largest and best known kite festivals in the world!

What's on?

There's lots to see and do throughout the day on the main stage, as well as on the beach.

  • Aerial shows
  • Professional kite flying demonstrations
  • Amateur kite flying competition
  • Circus drop zone with jugglers, dancers and unicyclists
  • Kids Zone with aerial displays, a jumping castle, puppet show, face painting and a pop up library
  • Kite making and craft workshops
  • Kite selling stalls
  • Art exhibition at Bondi Pavilion Gallery
  • International food alley
  • Live dance and music performances

How to get to there?

We strongly encourage visitors to catch public transport and leave the car at home as parking is very limited in the area and traffic will be heavy. Trains between Central and Bondi Junction run regularly on weekends and from Bondi Junction, catch a bus from the Interchange to Bondi Beach. Alternatively, as buses will be very busy, consider walking or cycling down to the beach instead.

Additional bus services will also run between the city, Bondi Junction and Bondi Beach but please allow plenty of extra travel time as services will be in very high demand and long queues are expected. If you can, plan to arrive before the event starts and/or leave later in the evening to avoid the peak crowds.
