Waverley wordsmiths – we want your words!
Sharpen those pencils, stretch those typing fingers, warm up those vocal chords and grab your spot in the inaugural Second Nature Poetry Slam. Whether it’s your first time at penning prose or you’re already an old pro, we'd love your entries!
All ages welcome.
Details:
- Theme: Your local connection to the natural world
- Prize: People’s choice $100 per category.
- Length: 2 min maximum
- Format: Video, must be filmed in nature in the Waverley local government area (link to map)
- Requisite words: Your poem/spoken word must include the words ‘connected to nature’ or ‘Second Nature’,
and one of the following:
- Ancient
- Wild
- Sacred
- Categories: Children (Under 18) and Adults (over 18).
Submissions: You can upload your video here starting from the 8th February until 11.30am, 8th March 2021. A link for uploading videos will be provided in February.

Terms & Conditions for your poem
- All forms of poetry will be accepted Haiku, spoken word, rhyming, alliteration, sonnet, even sung!
- Each entrant may submit only one video/entry.
- Videos can be taken with any camera or phone.
- Participants can choose to be in the video or to use local images of nature instead.
- Videos of MUST:
- Be taken in the Waverley Council local government area. Videos from outside of area won’t be considered.
- Be submitted online (a link for uploading videos will be provided in February).
- Be submitted by 11.30am (AEST) on the 8th March 2021
- This competition is free and open to all ages. Entrants under the age of 18 must gain permission from their parents or guardian to enter the competition. Permission must be provided to us via email secondnature@waverley.nsw.gov.au.
- All entries must be an independent creation by the entrant and free of any claims that they infringe any third-party rights.

- Selected videos will be uploaded on Council’s second nature website.
- If showing faces besides yours, you must have permission of any people
- Entrants must not injure or do anything to put wildlife and plants under distress to secure a video
- Safety is key. Entrants must not do anything that puts the entrant and/or other people in dangerous situations to secure footage. This includes jumping safety fences and standing close to cliffs.
