Rainbow, Mermaid, Fireworks

Bondi Pavilion Gallery
Details
This immersive exhibition by Rosie Deacon and Emily Crockford (Studio A) is Big, Big, Big! Part mermaid garden, part titanic shipwreck and part mermaid dance party, the exhibition offers an underwater experience only possible through a collaboration of two leading contemporary artists. Filled with bright colours, fabulous fashion, twisted textiles, hand-painted wallpaper, and music to make you boogie, Rainbow, Mermaid, Fireworks invites you to attend an underwater installation perfect for young gallery goers as well as those young at heart. Rainbow, Mermaid, Fireworks will live up to its name with an explosion of colour, sparkle, and joy.
Rosie Deacon is a leading Contemporary Artist who uses accessible materials and what may be described as ‘everyday junk’ to create artworks which blur the lines between contemporary art, craft and jewellery. Her solo and collaborative projects have been presented at the Sydney Opera House, Campbelltown Arts Centre, and Wollongong Art Gallery.
Emily Crockford has a long exhibition history and is well known for her public art commissions with Westpac Concord, City of Sydney Hoarding projects, Barangaroo and the University of Technology Sydney. Emily was a finalist in the 2020 and 2022 Archibald Prize. She has collaborated with a number of established designers including Corban & Blair and One Another.
Rosie and Emily have been in a long running collaboration for many years.
Featuring Deacon’s ‘Reef Set’ for Romance was Born x Ken Done Australian Fashion Week event, 2022 and presented with the support of Studio A.
Rainbow, Mermaid, Fireworks runs from April 1 - May 14.
Exhibition visitors are advised that on Saturday 15 and Saturday 22 April, from 10:30am – 12:30 pm, a real mermaid will be visiting the exhibition. Gallery visitors at these times are advised to wear bright colours and bring big smiles as mermaids love joy!
