- Festival of the Winds 2024
Festival of the Winds 2024
Bondi Pavilion, Bondi Beach
Details
Australia’s most anticipated kite flying event is back at Bondi Beach on Sunday, 8 September.
There’s something for everyone to enjoy, from kite shows to beautiful coastal scenes, as well as some of the best cultural food and entertainment from around the world.
The Australian Kite Flying Society (AKFS) will be bringing spectacular kite shows to Bondi once again, featuring the cream of the crop of Australia’s kite makers and flyers who will amaze and impress you.
You can also get involved with the kite flying by bringing your own, purchasing one at a stall or creating a sky-high creation at one of our kite making workshops led by Edgee and Jacquie Meng.
The iconic Bondi Pavilion will host a variety of cultural showcases, just like it did at the original Festival of the Winds in 1978.
From 11am to 4pm, expect kids' workshops, face painting, a circus playground, roaming circus acts, pottery, kite making, a petting zoo, skate lessons and more.
Expect to be entertained, with the incredible Suwitra Jaya Gamelon, an intoxicating mix of Balkan Romani beats by LoLo Lovina, Indian Jazz fusion by Shanti, West African rhythms with Keyim Ba and Loren Ryan, the 2023 Tamworth Country Music Festival – Toyota Star Maker Winner.
Plus, there will be a range of music and dance performances throughout the day from the amazing Black Joak Morris dance group, the talented kids at 100% Dance, Rose Bay Secondary School Music Ensemble, young musicians at Bondi Beach Public School, the electrifying Tap Pups, Bondi Brass and Feel Free Latin dance.
Waverley Council is pleased to present this event alongside the AKFS. We can’t wait to see you at one of Sydney's most colourful festivals!
