Christmas Window Competition
WAVERLEY WIDE CHRISTMAS COMPETITION 2020
Window displays are like billboards for your business and well-dressed windows attract customer spending. Waverley Council invites all businesses located in Waverley to decorate and light-up their shop windows in the run up to the festive season.
Window Competition will be held until 11 December 2020 with winners announced in late December 2020. All windows will be in the running to win one of five $200 vouchers from a Keep it Local listed business to treat your team. Prizes will be selected by a judging panel and the best window displays will be announced on the 17 December 2020.
Registrations Closed
No matter what kind of business you have, your shop-front windows are a potential shopper's first impression. Here are a few ideas on what to consider when dressing your window:
- Be bright
Ensure your window is bright and easy to see. Make sure the lighting is right to draw your eyes to a particular part of the window or product on display. - Tell a story
Instead of Christmas as a theme, consider whether your window is telling the story of a warm, beachy Christmas or a dreamy winter wonderland. - Showcase your items
Even if your products aren’t suitable to be included in a window display, get creative and make visual or emotional links to the type of business you run. - Surprise your customers
When was the last time you saw something completely amazing in a store window, that you had to tell your friends all about it? It doesn’t happen very often which means you have a golden opportunity to stand out from the crowd. - Less is more
You don’t want to clutter your windows with an assortment of products. Less is more. That said, you might consider using mass quantities of a single product – e.g. books in the shape of a Christmas Tree. - Light up at night
Even if you aren’t trading at night time, make sure your window looks inviting during the evening. Window shoppers on their way to dinner could turn into potential customers.
The Waverley Christmas Window Competition is a seasonal competition for all Waverley based retail businesses.
Entry into this competition is deemed acceptance of the following terms and conditions.
This competition is run by Waverley Council (‘Council’), ABN: 12 502 583 608, Cnr Paul St and Bondi Road, Bondi Junction NSW 2022.
Eligibility: The entrant must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia. Only businesses with a ground floor business may enter.
Entry: Free.
Campaign dates: The campaign runs until 11 December 2020. The windows will be judged by the judging panel between 14-15 December 2020 and winners announced by the Mayor of Waverley by 17 December. Entrants are encouraged to keep their Christmas Window Displays throughout December 2020.
Judging criteria
The best window will be judged on the following criteria:
- use of light
- visual impact;
- creativity/ideas;
- inventive use of materials;
- use of products related to the business incorporated into the display;
- effort.
The finalists are subject to selection by the judging panel (‘the Panel’). The Panel will consist of Mayor of Waverley Council, President of Bondi & Districts Chamber of Commerce and Editor of Local East magazine. The decision of the panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into in relation to the panel’s decision.
The winners of the competition will be announced on 17 December 2020 and will be published on the Council’s website and Facebook page. Waverley Council reserves the right at any time to disqualify any individual who the Waverley Council reasonably believes has breached any of the terms and conditions or engaged in any unlawful or other improper conduct calculated to jeopardise the fair and proper conduct of the competition.
