Art Plus Plan

For many years Waverley Council has promoted and supported the arts by delivering innovative and popular community arts projects, many of which have been supported by Arts NSW and the Australia Council for the Arts, and adopted as models of best practice by other councils.

These programs have been a great way for Council to involve people in the life of the local community, providing something for everyone – exhibitions, music, storytelling, theatre, cinema, festivals and classes.

Waverley residents have identified the arts and culture as an issue of high priority in the area. An action plan has been created for cultural and effective guidance for Council’s ongoing support for and involvement in the arts in Waverley. The Arts Plus Plan provides a framework for the cultural sector and peak bodies to work with Council.

The plan allows Council to continue its support for arts and culture in the local area, and to build upon the cultural facilities, events, arts programs and initiatives that are already an integral part of people’s experience of Waverley. It will also help facilitate the vibrant and diverse lifestyle and cultural experiences enjoyed by both local people and the many tourists and visitors to this unique part of Australia.

Waverley's Arts Plus Plan drives community cultural development and the creative industries within Council's strategic plan "Waverley Together 2". The Arts Plan was a finalist in the 2012 NSW LGSA Arts and Culture Awards for "Leading Arts and Culture" in "Integrated Cultural Planning" and "Developing the Creative and Cultural Industries" held at the Powerhouse Museum.
