Problem waste
Problem waste such as batteries, light globes, chemicals and e-waste, can’t be placed in your kerbside recycling bins and shouldn't be placed in your kerbside garbage bin.
Waverley Council provides a range of options for residents to responsibly dispose of priority problem wastes for free. See the links below for more information about collection stations and drop off events. Problem waste stations
Recycle your old mobile phones, tablets, ink cartridges and household batteries for FREE at Waverley Library and the Customer Service Centre.

Problem waste drop-off events
Recycle a range of household items for free at our Recycle It Saturday events held once a quarter.

Electronic waste (E-waste) recycling
Avoid electronic waste like old TVs and broken kettles going to landfill by dropping them off at one of our quarterly Recycle It Saturday events.

Community sharps disposal
Find out about the safe disposal of community sharps like needles, syringes and lancets at participating chemists in Waverley Council area.

Paint & household chemicals
CleanOut is a free drop-off service for the safe disposal of a range of common household chemicals. Find out more about what chemicals are taken and when collection events occur.

Mattress recycling
Each year in Australia, around 1.25 million mattresses end up in landfill. Waverley Council offers free mattress recycling for our residents.

Community recycling centre
Recycle your household problem waste such as paints, gas bottles, household batteries, smoke detectors, and fluorescent globes and tubes for free at the Community Recycling Centre.

Soft plastics
Soft Plastics are a tricky waste item and cannot be accepted in Council’s kerbside recycling bins. However, as a clean stream and with different processing equipment, soft plastics CAN be recycled separately

Clothing & textiles
Learn what options are available for diverting old clothing and textiles from landfill.

Food waste
According to our 2020 kerbside bin audit, about 35% of Waverley Council’s red bin weight is made up of food scraps.
You can recycle empty ink cartridges at our Customer Service Centre at 55 Spring St Bondi Junction, or at other participating retailers.
