Glenayr Avenue Streetscape Upgrade
What's happening?
Council is upgrading Glenayr Avenue. Key features of the upgrade include:
- Building raised continuous footpaths and intersection treatments
- Renewing existing raised pedestrian crossings
- Investigating improvements to existing bike route
- Planting of additional trees and greenery
- Installing high-quality paving in commercial areas
- Improving stormwater drainage
- Incorporating water sensitive urban design, like raingardens
- Installing new multipurpose poles, with integrated signage, smart lighting and electric vehicle charging capabilities
The design of the streetscape upgrade was developed based on feedback from community consultations and several Council-endorsed strategies, including the Community Strategic Plan, Environmental Action Plan, Strategic Asset Management Plan, Our Liveable Places Centres Strategy, and People Movement and Places.
Information on Stormwater Drainage Upgrades in Glenayr Ave
As part of Glenayr Streetscape Upgrade, Waverley Council is improving stormwater drainage by incorporating water- sensitive, urban-design solutions such as raingardens and letterbox pits.
The plants in the raingardens will soon become established and contribute to diverting storm water to the garden spaces, while the storm water grates direct and filter the water flow to our underground network without letting leaves and other gross pollutants through.
The design will maximise our water collection, minimise pollutants entering the ocean and make our green spaces thrive and flourish.
The image below shows an example of a raingarden and letterbox pit with established surrounding plants.
Construction update
Mack Civil, on behalf of Waverley Council, began construction works for the Glenayr Avenue Streetscape Upgrade in May 2022. Works are programmed to be completed in two major stages, with each stage being completed in smaller sub-stages as outlined below. There will be some overlap between sub-stages to help enable a smoother transition between construction activities.
Stage 1 (May 2022 - September 2022):
Sub-Stage 1A: Hall Street to Roscoe Street (western side)
Sub-Stage 1B: Roscoe Street to Curlewis Street (western side)
Sub-Stage 1C: Hall Street to Roscoe Street (eastern side)
Sub-Stage 1D: Roscoe Street to Curlewis Street (eastern side)
Stage 2: Curlewis Street to Warners Avenue (September 2022 - January 2023):
Works to be undertaken:
- Demolition
- Electrical works (night works)
- Driveway, footpath, kerb & gutter reconstruction
- Pedestrian Crossings & new signage installation
- Segmental paving & landscaping
- Multipurpose poles & lighting
- Road re-sheeting
