Tamarama Marine Drive Safety Upgrades
We’re undertaking safety improvement works along Tamarama Marine Drive. This project is funded by the Federal Government via the Transport for NSW Road Safety Program.
The works include:
- Replacing the existing pedestrian island with a raised pedestrian crossing, as outlined in the Tamarama Park Plan of Management
- Removing six light poles from the Gully-side of Tamarama Marine Drive and replacing them with energy-efficient, dimmable light poles on the footpath side of the road
- Upgrading existing bus shelters to increase visibility and pedestrian access
- Moving one bus shelter slightly further down Tamarama Marine Drive, towards Bronte, to increase accessibility and ensure safety of commuters when alighting or boarding buses. One parking space will be lost to accommodate the bus zone.
- Widening parts of the footpath
- New traffic and pedestrian signage
Community consultation was held from 23 March - 13 April 2022 and a summary of feedback received is available on Have Your Say.
Council has engaged QMC Group to undertake these works, and construction started on 1 August 2022. Work hours and times will be 7am–5pm Monday to Friday and 8am–1pm on Saturdays, if required.
If you have any queries regarding these works please contact QMC Group's representative at comms4waverley@qmc.com
Construction update - April 2023
On Tuesday 4 April QMC Group will install two new bus shelters along Tamarama Marine Drive. Work hours will be from 7am–5pm and in the event of wet weather work will commence the following day.
There will be some machinery noise, temporary restrictions to vehicle parking, and alternative pedestrian access. Traffic will be guided by trained Traffic Control Personnel.
Construction update - February 2023
Due to recent wet weather, works have been slightly delayed and are now due to be finished by mid February. Removal of old light poles will take place from Monday 6 March and are expected to take three days to complete, weather permitting. Work hours will be 7am–5pm.
Installation of bus shelters will take place later in March and more information will be provided when it is available.
Works restarting from 16 January 2023
QMC Group will restart works from Monday 16 January and works are expected to take two weeks to complete, weather permitting. Work hours and times will be 7am–5pm Monday to Friday and 8am–1pm on Saturdays, if required.
Construction update - December 2022
The majority of works for this project will be completed by 23 December 2022, weather permitting. The contractor QMC Group will need to come back in January 2023 to do some minor works, including:
- Removal of old light poles
- Installation of bus shelters
- Defects, clean up and reinstatement of turf in Tamarama Park
Thanks for your patience during construction. We will reach out to nearby residents in the lead up to final works taking place in early 2023.
