Ingrid Strewe

BA; MEnv. Ed
Ingrid has lived in Waverley for 30 years. Prior to this she worked and studied in London and Berlin. She was elected to Council in 2004. She was Mayor in 2007/8, has chaired Finance, Ethics and Strategic Planning and the Development Control and the Sustainability Committee. Ingrid was Mayoress of Waverley for seven years and convenor of the council's Public Art Committee. She is passionate about environmental conservation, maintaining the lifestyle, integrity and values of the Municipality, and protecting it from over development. It is very satisfying to walk the streets and parks of Waverley and to be able to say 'we did that' or 'I thought of that' - local Government is a great place for a person to have a lasting impact on the social, cultural and ecological landscape. At the moment I am particularly delighted with the work in Bronte Gully - stormwater harvesting for reuse and creating a more natural stream from a degraded stormwater channel. I am proud of our Villages upgrade programme including Bondi Road, our 'Green links' walking paths, the coastal walk, Campbell Parade upgrade and the new sports pavilion for Waverley Park and this is only a fraction of what we achieved over the previous term. Goals and achievements; Supports and promotes the upgrading of local walking paths that has lead to the adoption of the 'Green Links' policy.
‘Organic Ministerial Advisory Council’ 2007 - appointed by the NSW Government to the advisory council.
Lecturer in Charge and Unit development - B Sc (Env Sc) - Waste and Water Management, ACU.
Wrote curriculum for TAFE on wastewater treatment and reuse.
Appointed to Sydney Water Regional Customer Council.

          Founded Bronte Gully Bushcare 1997.
Founded ‘Save Our Beach’ 1985, to save the Hotel Bondi from demolition and protect the beach-front from high rise development. Worked on many environmental campaigns and instrumental in stopping sea-bed sandmining off the south coast of Sydney, which threatened local beaches and surfing activities.
Opposes the proliferation of microwave mobile phone towers and genetically modified organisms.
Ingrid is married and has raised three boys in the local community and has three granddaughters.
