School Travel

In an effort to reduce congestion in peak times and improve safety around schools Waverley Council is encouraging a return to walking, cycling, car pooling and catching public transport to travel to school. For more information about walk to school programs, or to establish a Walking School Bus program at your school, please contact Council’s Sustainable Transport Officer on 9369 8000.

Walk Safely to School Day

Walk Safely to School Day is an initiative of the Pedestrian Council of Australia. The event aims to promote safe pedestrian behaviour, promote the health benefits of walking and reduce car dependency. Waverley Council encourages schools to participate in Walk Safely to School Day each year by providing a breakfast event for participating schools. Active Transport Strategies Project

In 2007 Waverley Council was involved in an Active Transport Strategies Project in conjunction with SSROC, the Institute for Sustainable Futures, the SSWAHS and Marrickville and Sutherland Councils. This project involved working with early education centre to promote active travel from an early age. Active Travel includes walking, cycling, pram walking and catching public transport.
