How will you celebrate Neighbour Day 2010?

Sunday 28 March is Neighbour Day – the day that promotes strong community networks and friendly streets.

In Waverley we are lucky to have so many community minded residents who are interested in being involved in their neighbourhoods. But we also have a very mobile population with people coming and going a lot. Busy lifestyles often get in the way of knowing your neighbours. Even people with strong social networks benefit from local social interaction. It’s great to be able to help out someone next door and knowing that your neighbours would be there for you.

Taking part in Neighbour Day is as simple as saying ‘hello’ to a neighbour in the street, inviting them over for a cuppa, taking the bin out for your elderly neighbour or even putting on a neighbourhood BBQ. How you celebrate the day is up to you!

Don’t be shy on Sunday 28 March, give your neighbour a wave and help make the Waverley community even stronger!

There will be an afternoon tea on the front lawn at 9 Botany Street for any locals wanting to say hi on Neighbour Day. Sarah at number 9 recently set up a communal compost bin for anyone to use, so do head along to get a personal introduction to the Botany Street composter. Sarah is also involved in the Waverley Sustainability Street group. For more details and to get involved, contact Sarah on 0450 554 655 or sarahvanerp@gmail.com

Council’s Civic Pride program supports volunteering and runs a number of local community initiatives. We’ll be involving a couple of pocket parks in Bondi in Neighbour Day activities. Plant a tree, adopt a park or volunteer for a Bushcare group – getting involved is easy! For more information about the Civic Pride program visit www.waverley.nsw.gov.au/civicpride
