Maurizio Nannetti - Wood Artist

7th May 2012 - 27th May 2012

Maurizio Nannetti was born and educated in Italy, obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering in1980 and then began travelling the world. He arrived in Australia in 1985 and made this country his. He worked in the corporate world for almost 28 years and then decided to follow his heart and fulfil an old dream - to create with his own hands using beautiful material.

He has been fascinated by wood from an early age and when he moved Down Under it became a real passion.  He began with collecting Pacific Island carvings in the 80s and went on to uncover many unique Australian timber species and the beautiful crafts that could be made with them.

John Ewart introduced him to wood turning in Australia: and taught him the basic tool skills. Maurizio felt the desire  to learn more and went  to New Zealand to train with Shane Hewitt a master craftsman with a great deal of experience.  He is now in his third year of woodturning and his pieces have recently become more sculptural.

Last year he decided to go back to New Zealand and spent time with Rolly Munro, a woodturning and wood sculptor legend. He has furthered his artistic wood skills with Robbie Graham, another legendary wood artist from New Zealand. Working with wood has become Maurizio’s life.

Buildings, Boats, Bridges

Watercolours by Frank Freeburn

Waverley Library, First Floor

Frank Freeburn,  born  1923 - Penrith

Frank attended East Sydney Technical College studying Commercial Art and Design. On completion Frank left the Australian shores and for two years worked with several advertising agencies in London. Frank then returned to Australia, paying his way, by painting the ship’s portrait for the owner.

Back in Sydney Frank worked for Fortune Advertising Agency, living in Bondi. Retirement gave Frank the opportunity to devote more time to painting.

This exhibition contains pictures painted from 1980 to 2000. The consistency of crispness and clarity in both design and colour is testament to Frank’s lifelong dedication to quality and excellence. He is truly a master draftsmen and painter of the watercolour genre.  Frank’s love of boats, buildings and bridges placed in the Australian landscape is a feature of his work.

At the age of 87, Frank is now a resident of Hillman House, Springwood.

Many of the pieces in the exhibition are of scenes of the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney.

Waverley Library Theatrette
32-48 Denison St. Bondi Junction - $20/$15(conc./seniors)

TICKETS ON SALE AT DOOR FROM 1pm

Directed by Jacqueline Kott

The Actors' Forum presents the 2nd play in its 2012 season of professionally performed readings with David Williamson’s gripping and incisive Sanctuary.

Written in 1994, with humour and insight, it is a rare attempt to illuminate propaganda, often masked as journalism. Nearly 20 years on, this play appears even more relevant with the current focus on ethics in the mass media. Once more, Williamson continues to strike a contemporary chord.
