Did you know that in Australia you can be asked to leave a licensed venue if you have had too much to drink? Unsafe drinking levels can lead to on the spot fines of up to $550.

It is the law in Australia for staff at pubs, clubs and restaurants to not serve alcohol to anyone who is intoxicated.  This Responsible Serving of Alcohol law means you can be asked to leave or refused alcohol if you have had too much.

Look after yourself and avoid becoming intoxicated,

  • Remember to stay hydrated with a glass of water in between drinks and always keep watch of your drink as drink spiking does occur. 
  • We also recommend keeping a record of how many drinks you have had. A standard drink serve can vary from venue to venue and it’s helpful to understand how big a standard drink is. What is a standard drink?
  • Do not drink and drive.  The legal bloody alcohol limit in Australia is 0.05

Other handy tips when out celebrating

  • Eat before a big night out.
  • Keep hold of your valuables as thieves area attracted to crowded places.
  • Watch your drink and your valuables.
  • Don’t wake up with more than a hangover: practice safe sex & use a condom.
  • Drugs: you don’t know what’s in them or what they will do to you.
  • It is an offence to sell, supply to or to obtain liquor on behalf of a person under the age of 18 years.  Maximum penalty of $5,000 can be charged.
