School Surf Awareness Program
Waverley Council Lifeguard Service - School Surf Awareness Program
Waverley Council Lifeguard Service have successfully run this program in the Waverley area for a number of years and its popularity has led us to expand the program to include schools in the wider community.
The Waverley Council's Bondi Rescue Lifeguards are now taking bookings for school talks in the Sydney area for the year 2010. These informative and entertaining talks highlight the importance of surf safety and beach awareness.
The fun and informative program teaches students about ocean and water safety and helps them to identify potentially dangerous situations.
Run by two senior lifeguards (regulars of the highly-rated Channel 10 program ‘Bondi Rescue’), the program includes:
- first aid and rescue demonstrations
- an informative DVD and discussion about beach and water safety
- a magnetic board of Bondi Beach for the students to set up and work on
- how to operate effectively as a team
- the importance of sun safety and personal safety when in public places
- colouring competitions and bookmarkers
- appearance by our surf safety mascot, ‘Lenny the Lifeguard’.
The high profile of Bondi Rescue Lifeguards' speakers and the credibility founded in Waverley Council professional lifeguard experience make Bondi Rescue Lifeguards the perfect ambassadors for water safety and beach awareness. With a fun yet serious attitude to learning we believe we can captivate, and leave a lasting impression on all students who are involved.
The program runs from April through to November 2010. Visits to schools within the Waverley LGA will be free, and to schools outside of the area, there will be a nominal fee. If you are interested in the Bondi Lifeguards visiting your school, or if you need any further information regarding the program, or would like to make bookings, please contact Bondi Rescue Lifeguards on (02) 8362-3435, or email to lifeguard@waverley.nsw.gov.au.
As an additional safety service, Waverley Council's professional Lifeguards can also accompany students and teachers on school excursions where they may come into contact with water.
The program is scheduled from June to November at this year, and the program is available to all childcare centres and primary and secondary schools.
