Tamarama Park Upgrade, including a new Kiosk, Services Building, Surf Club Storage and Landscaping

Waverley Council proposed and approved an upgrade at Tamarama Park, which will provide new, improved and safe facilities for beach, park and coast walk users. This includes a new family friendly kiosk and outdoor seating area; a totally rebuilt services building with showers and toilets; bush care and park equipment storage and a parks amenity room on the south side of the park. On the north side a new slim line, cliff hugging building will be constructed to include storage space for the surf club and a first aid room for lifeguards.

Construction work began on Monday 6 May and were completed in late October. The new kiosk and amenities building are now open to the public.

The landscape upgrade, also now complete, allows for a clear separation between pedestrian and vehicle areas and a compliant loading and vehicle turning area making it a safer park for everyone. The improved amenities include:

  • New bicycle parking area
  • Water drinking fountain and bottle refill station
  • More seating
  • More rubbish and recycling stations
  • New barbecue with two hotplates
  • Well defined picnic areas in the park
  • A ‘spill out’ picnic area next to the kiosk
  • Strictly controlled access for disability parking, service vehicles and occasional surf club access
  • New mobility parking and an accessible path to the kiosk and amenity building, the kiosk outdoor seating area and to a picnic shelter.

Planting was enhanced with over 30 new trees to provide shade, new turf, 50% more native grasses and shrubs. Planting has been kept to a maximum height of 1m to allow views from the park to the beach. The new path addresses significant erosion and protect the park.
