    Bondi to Tamarama Coastal Walk

    See the spectacular Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk transformed into a 2km long temporary sculpture park featuring over 100 sculptures by artists from Australia and across the world.

    Travelling by bike

    You can ride a bike to and from the event. There is free bike parking available at  both Tamarama and Marks Park. These bike parking areas are for parking your own bike, or you can rent a dockless share bike and ride it one way then walk or catch the bus back again. Please note that bikes are not to be parked within the event area (shown on the map). You can download the map here.

    Do you enjoy the coastal walk from Bondi to Bronte and marvel at the monuments in Waverley Cemetery and wonder who is buried there? Why not book a walking tour, led by Friends of Waverley Cemetery Volunteers?

    The cemetery is the resting place of many famous an infamous people including test cricketers, politicians, murder victims, authors, poets and criminals!

    Date: Every Saturday

    Time: 9am - 10.30am

    Location: Attendees are to meet at the Cemetery Office  Entry Porch, via Trafalgar Street, Bronte.

    Cost: $24.18 per person.

    *Monies raised by the Friends of Waverley Cemetery Volunteer Tour Guides is used for memorial restoration work.

    Additional Information:  Attendees should wear comfortable walking shoes, carry water and slip, slop, slap. 
    Refunds are not available however rescheduling can be arranged.

    Waverley Library welcomes you to Eat First, Talk Later; a beautifully written, absorbing memoir by Beth Yahp.
    Beth’s journey takes us to Malaysia, considered one of the multiracial success stories of South-East Asia.

    In Beth Yahp’s sentimental journey what she is seeking is a place as a citizen of the multiracial world.
    It’s a book about how we tell family and national stories; about love and betrayal; home and belonging; and about the joys of food with it’s ability to heal us and bring us together. Beth’s  family mantra ‘Eat first, talk later’.

    There will be a Q&A session after the talk.

    Light refreshments will be provided.

    STARSTRUCK (1982) with guest speaker, Producer David Elfick.

    From cult film to Australian classic. The unexpected life of a film and the importance of Australian local stories.

    As part of Waverley Council's Screen Citizens program series, we are celebrating Australian film and local Bondi/Waverley film makers. Film discussions will be hosted by film critic, Peter Castaldi.

    The recent National Film and Sound Archive digital restoration of the 1982 cult classic, Starstruck, directed by the then, up and coming Gillian Armstrong, is heading to Sydney for its first screening in decades!

    Re-living the 1980s rock musical drama in all its new glory, this fun, lively film, full of colourful 80’s costumes, hair and music about two teenagers dreaming of becoming rock stars, is set to propel the audience right back to the 1980s Sydney local pub and music scene.

    Director Gillian Armstrong, Producer by David Elfick and Richard Brenna, DOP Russell Boyd, Choreographer by David Atkins, set designer Brian Thomsen, costume, Luciana Arrighi with songs by Tim Finn of Split Enz and a cameo appearance by Geoffrey Rush, are just some of the talented names attached to this film which received three AFI Award nominations, for Best Achievement in Costume Design, Best Achievement in Production Design and Best Original Music Score, with Tim Finn’s theme song ‘Body and Soul’ making number 5 on the Australian charts in May 1982.

    David Elfick is an Australian film and television producer and director, His body of work includes Newsfront (1978) Starstruck (1982), Blackrock (1997), and  Rabbit Proof Fence (2002) as well as the surfing classics Morning of the Earth and Crystal Voyager. His films have won numerous awards including Australian Film Institute (Best Picture), Berlin Film Festival Crystal Bear (Jury prize), Australian Writers Guild (Best Screenplay twice), Rio De Janerio Film Festival (Audience prize) and Taormina Film Festival (Best Film).

    THE ODD ANGRY SHOT with guest speakers writer/director/producer Tom Jeffrey and Producer Sue Millikin

    Taking risks in Australian film and are we still doing this?

    The recent National Film and Sound Archive digital restoration of the 1979 Australian war film following the experiences of Australian soldiers during the Vietnam War. The film focusses on the soldiers away from the battlefield and their return to Australia and their reflections on the how both they and general Australian society has changed.

    Cast includes: Graham Kennedy, John Hargreaves, John Jarratt, Bryan Brown and Graeme Blundell amongst many other well-known actors of the time.

    Tom Jeffrey is an Australian film and television producer and director. He worked at the ABC and BBC, was head of the Producers and Directors Guild of Australia, a consultant on the Experimental Film Fund and on the Film, Radio and Television Board of the Australian Council for the Arts. He is known for works: Crackerjack, This Day Tonight, The Removalists (1975) Weekend of Shadows and The Odd Angry Shot. He was awarded the A.M. (Member of the Order of Australia) in the 1981 Queen's New Years Honours List for his services to the film and television industry.

    Sue Milliken is one of Australia’s best known film producers and is known for her work with The Odd Angry Shot (1979) The Fringe Dwellers (1985), Black Robe (1991), Sirens (1994), Dating the Enemy (1995) Paradise Road (1997), Crocodile Dreaming (2007) and The Redfern Story (2013)

    She was awarded the A.O. (Officer of the Order of Australia) in the 2008 Queen's New Years Honours List for her services to the film and television industry and was awarded the Australian Centenary Medal in the 2001 Queen's New Years Honours List for her services to Australian society and the Australian film industry.
