Like our Festival of the Winds Facebook event to stay updated!

The skies above Sydney’s most famous beach, Bondi will come alive for the 39th time at the annual Festival of the Winds. Held on Sunday 10 September, the free ‘wind-powered’ event sees Australian and international kite flyers showing off their skills and amazing hand-made creations from 11am with winners announced at 3pm on the day.

Make your own sky-high creation at one of the kite making workshops offered throughout the day. There’s also food stalls from all over the world, children's activities, demonstrations, puppet shows, and a day-long entertainment program on the main stage, making Festival of the Winds one of Sydney's most loved events.

Special event clearways

As Festival of the Winds brings people from all over. To help with traffic, there will be special event clearways (parking restrictions) in place on the day on Bondi Road:

  • From 7am until 2pm on Bondi Road towards Bondi Beach between Old South Head Road and Sandridge Street (northern side)
  • From 12pm midday until 5pm on Bondi Road towards Bondi Junction between Sandridge Street and Oxford Street (southern side).

Special event clearways are ‘no parking’ zones and apply even to those with local resident and mobility parking permits. Vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies.

If your vehicle is towed you can call the Traffic Information Line on 132 701 to find its new location.

Public Transport

It will be busy in Bondi on the event day so leave the car at home and plan your trip to the festival by public transport instead. Visit transportnsw.info for all the details.

Eastgate car park will have a special event flat day rate of $15 so you can park and jump on a bus from Bondi Junction.
