Chess Coaching

Igor Monastyrsky in conjunction with Waverley Library runs chess lessons in the Children’s Activity Room. Instruction is aimed at children between the ages of 5 & 12.

Enquiries to Igor Monastyrsky on 9328 6425 or the Children’s Library on 9386 7720.

The benefits that children derive from chess can't overestimated. Children who start learning chess show great improvement in mathematics, physics and in ability to do independent research.

Studies have shown that regular chess training develops a child’s power of concentration and the facility for logical thinking. The competitive aspect also builds willpower.

Supported by Waverley Council.

Association for Brazilian Bilingual Children’s Development

The PlayEscola is our Brazilian playgroup and the starting point for a child's bilingual development, and offers fortnightly play-and-learn sessions in Portuguese for children aged 0 to 5 and their parents. The sessions are led by a Portuguese Teacher responsible for developing a fun and educational program that includes craft, music, play and story-telling. Parents are actively involved in all activities so that they can share the learning and love of the language with their children.

The PlayEscola takes place fortnightly on Fridays during school terms, from 2:30pm to 4:30pm at Waverley Library, 32-48 Denison St., Bondi Junction 2022 (Children's Activities Room).

The cost for ABCD’s Members is $10 per session and $12 for non-members. For more information please contact Pamella at 0410 849 875 or Email: playescola@abcd.org.au

Spanish classes for Children @ the Library

Tuesdays & Thursdays: 3:30 and 4:00 pm.

Why not teach your children a new language such as Spanish?

The ability to communicate in a non-native language not only increase cognitive skills, but enables the exploration of different culture and the development of social skills. All of which can open doors to a world of opportunity for future choices. KiKa Languages currently offers Spanish lessons for children aged between 2-10 years delivered either privately or in a classroom environment.
