Bronte Nippers

It was a pleasure to attend the Bronte Nippers Presentation Night last Friday week. They have certainly had a very successful year with more than 460 young people belonging to the club. It was a great effort by the office holders and the parents who give so much of their time to support the Nippers. President Col McDiarmid and secretary Graham Ford should be very pleased with the year. Poor Graham is recovering from a nasty fall off his bike which resulted in several broken bones and it is to be hoped he is soon fully recovered. In view of his recent bad luck everyone at the Presentation Night was particularly delighted when he was made a life member of the Nippers.

Central Library Changes

The new purpose built library on the corner of Ebley and Denison streets will be open on Monday, July 12. In order to move everything into the new building services at the central library will be curtailed from 25 May. It will be necessary to close the existing library down entirely from Sunday 20 June to Sunday 11 July. During this time the Branch Library in Bondi Road will be open as usual so books will still be able to be borrowed, though there will be fewer titles available.

World Environment Day

The Bondi Pavilion is holding a free family festival next Sunday afternoon, May 30 to celebrate World Environment Day which actually falls later in the week on June 5. The theme of this year’s festival is bio-diversity, and its benefits to our planet. During the afternoon there will be bands and entertainers, food stalls, craft workshops and art exhibitions. For those who really want to get informed their will be stalls run by the Wilderness Society, the Australian Conservation Foundation, Friends of the Earth and the Dolphin Society. There will be opportunity to learn how to compost or create a marine mobile or to marvel at the artwork representing the web of bio-diversity and role of water and light.

Computerpals Club for seniors

It is a fact of life that computers are here to stay and more and more older people are realising that they really would like to know about computers. By learning how to surf the net grandparents can see the world their grandchildren visit and share that experience. The internet is a great resource for family history and for a range of hobbies. With the development of internet banking services new options for paying bills have emerged and whether or not you want to use them it’s a good idea to know how the services operate and that requires knowing about computers. Computerpals has been running successfully for some time in other areas and Council is keen to see it started in Waverley. The first meeting of the Computerpals Club for Seniors will be held on Tuesday, 15 June from 2.30 – 4.30pm at the Mill Hill Centre. Do come and if you want more information ring Keith Baker: 9327 3853.
