Funds for Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia interferes with a person’s ability to think, act and feel. It affects about 2% of the population and can cause great distress to those affected and their families. Cr Norman Lee represented me at the Ritz Carlton breakfast hosted by the Schizophrenia Fellowship of NSW to launch the campaign to raise funds for clubhouses. These clubhouses provide vital support and education for people to cope with their illness enabling them to re-intergrate into the community and take up productive employment. The Fellowship hope to interest corporate organisations in the cause and the key speaker, Marcus Einfeld, certainly emphasised the need for this group to be given priority by corporations wanting to give funds to worthwhile causes. Anyone who would like to become a member or a volunteer or a donor should ring the Schizophrenia Fellowship on 9878 2053.

Grass & Rubbish

It’s good to see that there has been a reduction in the amount of rubbish left in back streets and on footpaths since I last mentioned it in the column. If you do see rubbish please report it straight away to Council and it will be cleared up. Anyone identified as having illegally dumped rubbish will be prosecuted. I am pleased to have received feedback that the nature strips are looking much better because of the upgraded maintenance program. If you notice any grass that needs attention or rubbish to be removed please phone me on 9369 8130.

Dogs on the Loose

Most people are really careful when they take their dogs for a walk and clear up the doggy doo and don’t allow their dog to savage other dogs or wild life. Unfortunately a few people are allowing their dogs off the leash in areas where they should be under control. Our regulatory staff will be issuing cautions to people who have dogs off the leash in places where this is not permitted.

Scrabble

Scrabble is one of the world’s best loved games. You don’t have to have a great vocabulary to still get a lot of enjoyment out of the game. It’s not necessarily the person who knows the most words who wins . - getting on the triple word scores is important. There is a scrabble game every Tuesday from 10.30am – 1.30pm at the Mill Hill Centre. Do come and play. Inquiries: Sonja Murphy 9369 4087
