ESAC Helps Council Make Better Decisions
Council has always actively encouraged the community to be involved in decision making for our environmental programs.
In 2001, a Community Stormwater Reference Panel was set up to oversee the implementation of stormwater projects and expenditure of the environmental levy. With the renewal of the Environmental Levy in 2006, this panel was replaced by the Environmental Sustainability Advisory Committee (previously known as the Sustainability Committee). This Committee has 14 members (including four nominated Councillors) and 10 community representatives with experience in the areas of environmentally sustainable development.
The Committee will help transform Council’s vision for an environmentally sustainable community into action.
The Committee will do this by:
- Working with Council to promote sustainable practices and reduce the ecological footprint of the Waverley LGA
- Assisting Council to integrate environmental sustainability into Council policy, plans, and operations
- Providing a forum for discussion and recommendation on sustainability issues relevant to the Waverley local government area.
To date the Committee has worked with Council on reviewing chapters of the Development Control Plan to incorporate sustainable building incentives, reviewed the water management technical guidelines, and provided feedback on the draft Environmental Action Plan (EAP).
If you are interested in joining the Committee, look out for an expressions of interest advert in the local media and on this website in late November.
