What Council Is Doing
Winner of the 2012 Green Globe Award
In September 2012, Waverley Council won the Green Globe 10-Year Sustainability Achievement Award for Council’s excellence in advancing environmentally sustainable practices.
Waverley Council won its category for a number of sustainability projects underway across the LGA including Bronte and Bondi stormwater harvesting, Waverley Park Groundwater Harvesting and Re-use System, the Compost Revolution program, installing and retrofit cost-effective energy saving technologies across Council premises, cycling and green links paths, and its commitment to pursuing environmentally friendly practices. Our Vision
Our vision for Waverley is for an environmentally sustainable community in which we,
- Have lowered our greenhouse emissions, and are prepared for the impacts of climate change,
- Manage our energy, water and waste resources efficiently, and,
- Respect and enrich our biodiversity
Our Plan
In late 2009 Council adopted it's Environmental Action Plan 2 (EAP2). This document outlines numerous targets that Council and the Community are working towards. The plan is divided into five main sections,
- Greenhouse Gas Emissions
- Water
- Waste
- Biodiversity
- Sustainability Education and Engagement
The development of this plan involved significant community consultation.
Environmental Action Plan 2
Every four years Council reports the progress against EAP2 environmental targets in the above mentioned areas across the local government area (LGA) and Council operations. This replaces Council's annual State of Environment Report.
