Mattresses for recycling

Waverley Council offers free mattress recycling for our residents. You can call our Resource Recovery Hotline on 9083 8080 to organise a free Your Call collection. Each Waverley household is entitled to two free Your Call Collections of household items each calendar year, plus a free scheduled clean up collection.

There is a limit of 2 mattresses per collection and the mattresses will be collected for recycling 24 hours after our cleanup crew has visited the property.

Your mattresses are picked up and recycled by:

Soft Landing – Mission Australia NSW

  • Soft Landing is a social enterprise operating in New South Wales. They divert waste mattresses from landfill and recover the componenets for reuse.
  • Soft Landing has developed closed-loop material recovery for all mattress components.
  • They offer employment opportunites for people who experience barriers entering the open labour market.

Landsavers

  • Landsavers are mattress recyclers and cleaners.
  • Mattresses are collected and taken to their recycling facilities, the recycling process keeps them from landfill or diverts them to charities.
  • Landsavers also clean and sanitise donated mattresses that have been given to our Charity partners plus we clean and sanitise for Hotels and Motels.

Did you know?

  • Mattresses are the most common items put out for council collections.
  • On average, people change their mattress every 10 years.
  • Each year in Australia, around 1.25 million mattresses end up in landfill.
  • An average mattress contains 12.5kg of steel, 2kg of wood and 1.5kg of foam, all of which can be recycled or reused.
