Energy & climate change

climateMan-made climate change is one of the most pressing issues facing the world today.

Australia is one of the world's highest emitters of greenhouse gases per person.

Increases in greenhouse gas emissions from our own activities in energy use from coal, transport, waste disposal and agriculture can lead to extreme weather events such as bushfires, sea level rise, loss of wildlife and economic impacts.

As part of its overall environmental strategy, Waverley has committed to targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions:

  • By 30% by 2020 for Council
  • By 30% by 2020, and 70% by 2050 for the wider community

By reducing energy use and using less carbon-polluting energy sources, we can together reach these goals and save money in the long-term.
