Beaches and Parks

Just a few kilometres from the centre of Sydney, Waverley has fabulous beaches and beach-side parks at Bondi, Tamarama and Bronte:

Bondi

People love world-famous Bondi Beach with its fabulous surf, wading pool, playgrounds and nearby shops, cafÉs and restaurants.The southern end is popular with experienced surfers, while the northern end is more swimmer friendly. For more cultural entertainment, visit the historic Bondi Pavilion in the centre of the Bondi Promenade and catch an exhibition, class or festival. There are cafes, playgrounds, shops, showers, toilets, BBQs and picnic areas.

Tamarama

Tired of the bustle of Bondi? Head to nearby Tamarama. But be careful, it’s one of the most dangerous surf beaches in Australia and prone to strong currents. As with all of Waverley's beaches, make sure you swim between the red and yellow flags at all times. There is a cafe, playground, BBQ area, showers and toilets for visitors.

The Margaret Whitlam Recreation Centre in Waverley Park

The Margaret Whitlam Recreation Centre, also known as Waverley Park Pavilion, opens in June 2012. Set in the historic Waverley Park, the recreation centre features a grandstand, an indoor sports court and changing rooms, club rooms, community room and kitchen, and a café overlooking Waverley Oval to the sea.

Rehabilitating Tamarama Gully

Council is planing for the restoration of the vegetation in Tamarama Park and Gully. For more information on the Tamarama Park Ecological Restoration Framework and Action Plan (ERFAP) Bronte

Bronte beach and park boasts great coastal views, beautiful adjoining parkland and gully, and a bustling cafÉ strip. Perfect for families wanting to enjoy a summer picnic. Facilities include a large BBQ and picnic area, playground, showers and toilets.

The three beaches are linked by the famous Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk. Stroll at your own pace along this magnificent cliff walk. Don’t miss the new Sesqui Boardwalk around the Waverley Cemetery which provides fantastic uninterrupted views up and down the coastline. Distances and times: Bondi Beach North to Bondi South Promenade 1km (15mins). Bondi Beach to Bronte Beach via Tamarama Beach 1.5km –(1hr).
