When do I report graffiti to Waverley Council?

The graffiti team remove: 

  • Offensive graffiti within 48 hours of it being reported (Offensive graffiti means racist, sexist, contains crude language, or personal information, depicts graphics of a sexual or violent nature).
  • Graffiti on high profile & primary locations within 48 hours of notification.
  • Stickers or posters on council property
  • Graffiti on property that has been identified as a Hot spot within 48 hours of notification
  • Graffiti from other sites below 1.8 metres 'at cost' within 20 days of notification.

When and why should I report graffiti to the Police?

You should contact Waverley Police Station on 9369 9899 immediately if you:
  • See someone writing graffiti
  • If you know or suspect someone is doing graffiti

Report graffiti to the Police Assistance Line on 131 444.

Reporting graffiti to the Police will ensure it is registered as a crime of malicious damage in the Waverley Local Area. This helps the Police and Council to understand what is happening in our area and design effective strategies in response.

Taking a photo will provide evidence of any ongoing problem and may help apprehend an offender.

Gathering the following information before reporting an incident will assist the Police and/or Graffiti Removal Team to record the graffiti incident.

  • Is the Graffiti offensive
  • Describe the content of the Graffiti
  • Type of marker/paint used

How do I report graffiti on other public property?

At times graffiti may appear on property other than residential and Council property. Other reporting mechanisms apply. Waverley Council is working to establish partnerships with other authorities to help keep Waverley looking good.
