Waverley Council Civic Pride Awards Heritage & Design 2009

Waverley Council is now accepting entries for the 2009 Civic Pride Awards Heritage & Design.  The quality of our streetscapes and public areas is an important source of pride for our community.  These awards are part of a wider Civic pride Program, celebrating and supporting the contribution of local residents in the area.

If you have completed a project that promotes the conservation of some part of Waverley's natural, built or cultural heritage by December 2008, you could win not only a prestigious heritage and design award, but also recognition within the industry of building and design excellence in your field.

The aim of this competition is to recognise and promotes good design solutions that ensure that the significant qualities of heritage buildings and conservation areas are maintained and enhanced.  In this way, the awards serve to encourage excellence in design and craftsmanship and also promotes community awareness of our heritage.

The awards will consist of the following two categories:

  • Heritage Conservation: work carried out to an existing building which returns the building fabric back to a known earlier state or conserves the heritage integrity.

Criteria 1- Design Quality (compatibility with existing buildings, architectural integrity, proportions), and
Criteria 2- Character (streetscape, scale, materials).

  • Contemporary Design: this award is intended to encourage contemporary design of new residential, commercial, mixed-use, industrial or public buildings or structures.

Criteria 1- Design Quality (timelessness, innovation, proportions), and
Criteria 2- Context (streetscape, scale, materials, landscaping).
